Biological Safety in Animal Research

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Personnel who work with research animals on approved protocols.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Topics discussed include principles/concepts of biosafety, agent classes and safety levels, engineering controls, personal protective equipment, work practices, biological agent use and transport information and biological waste management issues. Biosafety Awareness

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The class provides information about potential biological hazards present in non-laboratory workplaces. Topics include: identifying a biological hazard, exposure reduction strategies, engineering controls, work practices and responsibilities relating to biological hazards. Biosafety General Training

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Research and clinical laboratory personnel who work with biological agents and materials. Any member of the University community may attend.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Topics discussed include principles/concepts of biosafety, biological agent use, agent classification and safety levels, engineering controls, personal protective equipment, work practices, biomedical waste definitions, transport information and biosecurity.This training is also available as a web based course. Bloodborne Pathogens (Initial)

INTENDED AUDIENCE: New hire employees and current employees whose department has determined that they are occupationally exposed to human blood, body fluids or other potentially infectious materials in their work environment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class fulfills the training requirement of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens standard, 29CFR 1910.1030. Attendance at this Initial classroom setting is the prerequisite for annual retraining. For more information about this course, contact David Cavallaro (860-486-3180)

Bloodborne Pathogens (Retraining)

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Current occupationally exposed employees who wish to fulfill their annual bloodborne pathogens retraining requirements.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: Bloodborne Pathogens Initial and/or previous annual retraining. This class fulfills the annual training requirement of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens standard, 29CFR 1910.1030.
